Subject: [SCMARION-L] Jeremiah - Jonathan HARRELSONRegarding the recent posting Betty (bnorem@aol.com) made regarding Jeremiah Harrelson and Jonathan Harrelson:
Probate records of Jesse Bryant prove that Jonathan Harrelson married Mourning Bryant, dau of Jesse Bryant and his wife Mourning Smith.
However, I've seen absolutely nothing in any record to even suggest that Jeremiah Harrelson was father of Jonathan. In fact, Jeremiah's census and probate records seem to indicate that he was not.Early census records show only one young male in Jeremiah's household
up until Jeremiah's death ca 1834-35. And that male is identified in Jeremiah's probate record as his son Jesse. Now if Jonathan's middle initial "J" stood for Jesse, there might be some case to be made for him being the son of Jeremiah. Please bear in mind that often a person signed his mark with the first initial
of his given name. Could that be where Jonathan's initial "J" came from?I commend Betty for posting her chart with the sources shown. Now that's the way to post a chart! Lack of citations is a major fault of most of these
charts that are posted to the web.Jo
